Ministries and Committees

At St. John’s, we believe God has granted every person with gifts intended to further the mission of the gospel.

We know that God has granted you gifts in your life not only to enjoy but also to serve. St. John’s is a community where we encourage you to not only share, but explore, discover, and strengthen you and your God-given gifts for the betterment of God’s world.

Please take a look below and contact us for more information on our various groups. If you’d find yourself interested in the ministries of the groups described below, please email us at Email St John Lutheran Church to be put in contact with their leadership.

Worship & Music Committee

Our congregation has been blessed with many gifted folks of all ages that share their musical and artistic talents as we worship together, in contemporary and traditional music settings. We have a choir that meets at 9:15 to rehearse. We are also often blessed by instrumental and vocal soloists. We are blessed with art shared by various quilters and painters, as well as volunteer assisting-ministers in worship. This is a group that grows in creativity every year, and would love to have you join them! Shantel Knudsvig is the leader of the Worship & Music Committee.

Fellowship Quilters

Fellowship Quilters is an ecumenical group that meets in our building. This group’s mission is to make and pray over quilts sent to serve the needs of sick people in our community and the needs of people all over the world. This group meets on Mondays fall-spring. They’d love to have you, even if you have never sewed or quilted before! Patti Oelke is the leader of this group.

Altar Guild

Altar Guild is wonderful group of people who serve our worship life by caring for all the physical worship elements. These are a talented group of individuals that Pastor Dorothy often thinks of as the ‘worship ninjas’ that make sure all sorts of behind the scenes care and attention of our worship life are attended to. If you love worship but maybe not be up front and center, this is a group for you! Gynell Harris is the leader of our Altar Guild.

Property

We are blessed with a lovely property and church building in which we worship and do ministry. Because of the gift of our building and space, we are able to serve our community in many and various ways not only through our work, but also by sharing our space with Killdeer Public School District as the site for the preschool. With this gift comes a need for a lot of care. If you are someone who likes to tinker, fixit, or work with your hands, this is the group for you! Tucker Williams is the leader of the Property Committee.

Ushers, Readers, Assisting Ministers

Our worship life is served by volunteer ushers, readers, and occasional assisting-ministers. These are the smiling faces and lovely voices that shared God’s love with us on Sundays mornings. If that is something you are interested in, please contact Amanda Knudsvig in our office.

This group of great thinkers gathers every year to dream together how our congregation will best use our resources to serve our community. If you are a financially-minded and creative person, this is the group for you! Rich Pelton is the leader of the Endowment Committee.
